A Monster Calls

The Young Company

He's only thirteen, but he knows exactly what's going to happen shortly after midnight. He's going to have the same nightmare again, that "nightmare full of darkness, wind, and screams." It's been like this ever since his mother fell ill.

But tonight seems different. Conor hears a voice calling him from the garden. Across from the house stands an old church with its cemetery and an ancient tree, a yew that has transformed into a monster before Conor's eyes. Hand in hand with this creature, night after night Conor embarks on a new adventure to escape his own fears until he gathers enough courage to confront his worst nightmare, his own story: the truth.

Based on the novel by Patrick Ness, inspired by an idea by Siobhan Dowd. A translation of the original English work, A Monster Calls. Adapted by Sally Cookson, Adam Peck, and the original company. Directed by José Luis Arellano García. Translated by David R. Peralto. A LaJoven production in collaboration with the Spanish Association Against Cancer. Starring Elisa Hipólito, Iker Lastra/Eduardo Aguirre de Cárcer, Antonia Paso, Cristina Bertol, Fernando Sainz de la Maza, Leyre Morlán, Nadal Bin, and Raúl Martín.
